Description

The Cisco VG400 4FXS/4FXO is an IOS XE-based analog voice gateway from the Cisco VG400 range. It connects analog phones, fax machines, modems and speakerphones to Cisco Unified Communications Manager or a third-party SIP or H.323 IP telephony system, which suits branch and remote sites and low- to medium-density analog deployments that need to keep existing analog endpoints running alongside IP telephony.

This model is a fixed-port chassis with 4 FXS ports (RJ-11, ports 0-3) and 4 FXO ports (RJ-11, ports 4-7). The 4 FXO failover bypass ports let designated analog phones make PSTN calls during a power outage, and 4 FXS-E extended loop ports support longer cable runs with a 35 mA loop current and 65 Vrms ringing voltage. Up to two 10/100/1000 Ethernet LAN ports provide the network connection, with 4 GB of fixed DDR3 SDRAM and a USB 2.0 Type A port. On-board DSPs handle voice processing, so no separate PVDM is needed.

The gateway supports SIP, SCCP, MGCP and H.323v4, G.711 and G.729a codecs, T.38 fax relay and fax pass-through. It requires Cisco IOS XE 16.10.1 or later and Cisco Unified Communications Manager 12.0.1SU2 or later, and can also be used with Webex Calling as an analog telephone adapter. Power is 100-240 VAC auto-ranging with an external power supply.

FAQs

Q: Does the VG400 need a separate software licence?
A: No separate software licence or subscription is specified for the VG400, which runs Cisco IOS XE. Call control such as Cisco Unified Communications Manager or Webex Calling is separate.

Q: How is the VG400-4FXS/4FXO powered?
A: It takes 100-240 VAC auto-ranging at 50-60 Hz through an external power supply and does not use PoE. The datasheet lists 67 W for this 4FXS/4FXO model.

Q: Which call control systems does it work with?
A: It works with Cisco Unified Communications Manager 12.0.1SU2 or later, CUCM Express on compatible versions, and third-party SIP or H.323 call control. It also works with Webex Calling as an analog telephone adapter.

Q: What are the FXO failover bypass ports for?
A: They allow designated analog phones to place PSTN calls during a power outage. This model provides 4 bypass ports alongside its 4 FXS and 4 FXO ports.

Q: Does the VG400 support CUBE, SRST or DSP farm?
A: No. The VG400 does not natively support CUBE, CUCME, SRST or DSP farm, which are available only on Cisco 4000 Series ISRs. It does support MGCP fallback for call survivability.
