Description

The Cisco VG420-132FXS/6FXO is a 2RU rack-mount analog voice gateway from the VG400 series, running Cisco IOS-XE. It connects analog phones, fax machines, modems and speakerphones to Cisco Unified Communications Manager or Unified CM Express, so sites can keep existing analog devices when moving to IP telephony. It also suits centralised, high-concentration deployments and can augment an ISR environment.

This variant provides 132 FXS ports, of which 108 are FXS-E enabled, plus 6 built-in FXO failover bypass ports that let designated FXS phones reach the PSTN if the chassis loses power. Two NIM slots accept analog and digital voice modules, and two 10/100/1000 RJ45 Ethernet ports allow link redundancy. It uses an Intel x86 multicore processor with 4 GB DDR4 DRAM and 8 GB fixed flash, and runs from 100-240 VAC auto-ranging power at up to 389 W.

Licensing is Smart Licensing only, with a Smart Account and Virtual Account required. The Unified Communication (UCK9) licence is included by default, and the Security and Cloud Calling licences are optional.

It requires Cisco IOS-XE 17.6.1 or later and works with Cisco Unified CM 14.0 (SU1) and 12.5 (SU4). Analog NIMs include FXO, FXS, E&M and BRI, and digital T1/E1 NIMs are supported. SIP trunking to third-party call control is also supported.

Q: Does it need a licence?
