Description

The UCS 2408 is a fourth-generation fabric extender (I/O Module) for the Cisco UCS 5108 blade server chassis, part of the UCS 2400 Series. It brings the unified fabric into the chassis, connecting the blade servers to the fabric interconnect without a switch in each chassis. It is managed as an extension of the fabric interconnect through Cisco UCS Manager or Cisco Intersight, and suits data centres running UCS blade domains on 25G uplinks.

Each module provides eight 25 Gigabit Ethernet FCoE-capable SFP28 external ports for uplinks to the fabric interconnect, and 32 internal 10G server-facing interfaces to the blades through the chassis midplane. Hardware forwarding is 1.04 Tbps, and two modules in a chassis give up to 400 Gbps of I/O per chassis to a UCS 6400 series or 6536 fabric interconnect. Up to two modules fit per chassis for redundancy, with an active/active data plane and failover. Maximum power consumption is 160 W, drawn from the chassis.

The module connects to the UCS 6454, 64108 (at 25 Gbps only) and 6536 Fabric Interconnects. Supported transceivers are SFP-25G-SR-S, SFP-10/25G-LR-S, SFP-10/25G-CSR-S and SFP-25G-SL, with DAC and AOC cables for short runs.
