Description

This 12Gb/s modular SAS host bus adapter is built for Cisco UCS C220 M5 and C240 M5 rack servers. It runs in HBA (JBOD, non-RAID) mode, passing drives straight through to the operating system, which suits software-defined storage and direct-attached disk setups where hardware RAID is not required.

The card controls up to 16 internal SAS or SATA hard drives and SSDs through 16 x 12Gb/s SAS channels. It installs in the server's dedicated internal modular controller connector, so it does not use a PCIe slot, and it connects to the drive backplane using the SAS/SATA cabling supplied with the server chassis. Power is drawn from the controller connector and it is classed as a low-power card. No licence or subscription is required.

Supported chassis include the C240 M5 variants UCSC-C240-M5S, UCSC-C240-M5SN and UCSC-C240-M5L, and the C220 M5 SFF 10-drive version. Only one RAID controller or HBA can be fitted in the modular slot. For larger drive counts, the separate UCSC-SAS-M5HD HBA supports up to 24-26 drives.
