FAQs

Q: What is the difference between Network Essentials and Network Advantage licenses?
A: Network Essentials provides foundational Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching features. Network Advantage includes all Network Essentials features plus advanced capabilities such as Cisco Cyber Vision, Secure Equipment Access, TSN frame preemption, and enhanced security features.

Q: Can this switch power high-demand devices like PTZ cameras?
A: Yes, the IE-3500-8U3X-E supports 4PPoE (4-pair PoE) delivering up to 90W per port, making it ideal for powering PTZ cameras, Wi-Fi 6 access points, industrial sensors, and other high-power endpoints with a total 480W PoE budget.

Q: Is this switch suitable for outdoor or harsh industrial environments?
A: The switch is designed for harsh industrial conditions with an IP30 rating, fanless operation, and an extended temperature range of -40°C to +75°C. For outdoor or marine installations, Cisco recommends installing the switch inside a metal enclosure rated IP54 or better.

Q: Does this model support modular expansion?
A: Yes, the IE-3500-8U3X-E supports optional expansion modules (IEM series) that can extend the switch to up to 27 total ports, allowing flexible port configurations including additional copper, fiber, or multigigabit ports as network requirements grow.

Q: What redundancy and resilience protocols are supported?
A: The switch supports industrial resilience protocols including Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP), Resilient Ethernet Protocol (REP), Device Level Ring (DLR), as well as HSRP for Layer 3 redundancy, ensuring fast failover and high availability for critical industrial networks.
