Description

The MX240 is a 5 RU modular chassis router in the MX Series 5G Universal Routing Platform family. This MX240BASE-AC base chassis is built for service provider and enterprise edge, aggregation and core roles, including 5G mobility transport, cloud and data-centre interconnect, and metro and WAN edge deployments where a compact modular router is needed.

The base chassis is AC powered with 1 AC power supply and 1 SCB, and offers 4 slots in total, including 2 MPC slots. With SCBE3 fabric it supports up to 1.5 Tbps per slot and up to 3 Tbps maximum system throughput. Interface density reaches up to 120 x 10GbE, 30 x 100GbE and 6 x 400GbE, depending on the line cards installed. PDH and Sonet/SDH interfaces are supported, and the chassis takes one or two AC power supplies in slots PEM0 and PEM2.

The chassis accepts MX Series MPCs and MICs, such as the MPC10E, MX-MPC1E-3D and MIC-MACSEC-20GE, together with SCBE, SCBE2 and SCBE3 fabric and RE-S-1800X2-8G Routing Engines. It runs Junos OS, with feature licences sold separately depending on the line cards and feature set.

Q: Does the MX240BASE-AC need a software licence?
A: It runs Junos OS. Software feature licences, such as Advanced or Premium feature packs and Subscriber Access, are sold separately depending on the line cards and feature set. The base chassis itself does not carry a feature licence tier.

Q: How is the MX240BASE-AC powered?
A: It is AC powered and takes 1 or 2 AC power supplies in slots PEM0 and PEM2. This base SKU is configured with 1 AC power supply. Each normal-capacity AC inlet needs a dedicated feed and a 15 A (250 VAC) breaker.
