A: No. This is a single-mode transceiver designed for G.652 single-mode fibre with 9/125 micron core. It will not function over multi-mode fibre (OM3, OM4, or OM5). The 1310nm wavelength and EML laser are optimized for single-mode propagation and the 4 dB link budget assumes single-mode attenuation characteristics.

Q: How does the single lambda PAM4 architecture differ from 100GBASE-LR4?
A: 100GBASE-FR1 uses one 1310nm wavelength modulated with PAM4 at 53.125 Gbaud over duplex fibre. 100GBASE-LR4 uses four separate CWDM wavelengths (around 1295nm to 1330nm) each carrying 25G NRZ over duplex fibre with passive multiplexing. FR1 simplifies the optical design and reduces cost but requires mandatory FEC and reaches only 2km, whereas LR4 reaches 10km without requiring FEC.
