Description

This is a passive 40 Gigabit Ethernet direct attach copper cable with a QSFP+ connector permanently attached at each end. At 0.5 m (50 cm) it suits short intra-rack links between Juniper EX and QFX switches, such as Virtual Chassis interconnects and 40G uplinks.

The cable uses passive twinax copper, so there are no optics to power and no transceivers to buy separately. It is a straight QSFP+ to QSFP+ link and is not breakout capable, so it connects one 40G port to one 40G port. The Juniper part number is 740-044512.

Juniper's Hardware Compatibility Tool lists the 50 cm 40GbE QSFP+ DAC (EX-QSFP-40GE-DAC-50CM) as supported on EX4300 Multigigabit, EX4400 (Junos OS 21.1R1 onwards), EX4650-48Y and QFX5220-32CD platforms. No licence or subscription is needed for this cable.
