Description

The JH232A-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Aruba JH232A. This QSFP+ transceiver operates plug-and-play in Aruba networking platforms requiring 40GBASE-LR4 connectivity. - IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-LR4 compliance ensures interoperability with any standards-compliant 40G single-mode infrastructure - QSFP+ form factor with duplex LC connector, 40 Gbps aggregate data rate, 1310nm CWDM wavelengths (1271/1291/1311/1331nm) - Four-lane multiplexed architecture delivers 10.3125 Gbps per channel over single-mode fibre - Up to 10km reach over standard G.652 single-mode fibre with duplex LC connectors - Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DOM) provides real-time visibility into optical power, temperature, bias current, and voltage per channel - Hot-swappable design with maximum 3.5W power consumption and 0 to 70 degree C operating temperature range

Features

• IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-LR4 compliance guarantees interoperability with any vendor's standards-compliant 40G single-mode infrastructure and ensures predictable link behaviour across mixed-vendor deployments
• Four-lane CWDM architecture uses discrete wavelengths at 1271, 1291, 1311, and 1331nm per ITU-T G.694.2 grid, multiplexed over duplex LC single-mode fibre to deliver 40 Gbps without requiring parallel fibre ribbons
• DFB laser array transmitter and PIN photodiode receiver architecture with integrated MUX/DEMUX provides stable optical performance across the 10km span with minimum 9.7 dB link budget
• Per-channel DOM telemetry exposes transmit power, receive power, bias current, temperature, and voltage for each of the four lanes independently, enabling granular link troubleshooting and predictive maintenance
• Hot-swappable with locking bail latch mechanism allows field installation and removal without powering down the host platform or interrupting adjacent ports
• Commercial temperature range (0 to 70 degrees C) and sub-3.5W power envelope suit controlled data centre and campus aggregation environments with standard cooling
• QSFP MSA SFF-8436 mechanical and electrical compliance ensures drop-in fit and host board signal integrity across any QSFP+ 40G port from any vendor

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Aruba JH232A?
A: Yes. The JH232A-BCC is plug-and-play compatible with the Aruba JH232A. Both share the same QSFP+ form factor, IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-LR4 compliance, 40 Gbps data rate, 1310nm CWDM wavelengths, and 10km single-mode reach. The module will be recognised by Aruba platforms without configuration changes.

Q: Which Aruba platforms support this transceiver?
A: This transceiver is compatible with Aruba switches and routers featuring QSFP+ ports that support 40GBASE-LR4, including the 2930M series, 8320 series, and other platforms with 40G QSFP+ interfaces. Any Aruba device with a QSFP+ slot expecting IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-LR4 will accept this module.

Q: What fibre type and quality is required for 10km reach?
A: This transceiver is designed for standard G.652 single-mode fibre and requires duplex LC connectivity. The 10km reach assumes typical fibre attenuation of approximately 0.4 dB/km and the module's minimum 9.7 dB optical budget. Lower-quality or higher-loss fibre, dirty connectors, or additional splice points will reduce effective reach.

Q: How does the four-lane CWDM architecture affect link establishment?
A: The module transmits and receives across four independent 10.3125 Gbps lanes simultaneously, each on a distinct CWDM wavelength (1271/1291/1311/1331nm). All four lanes must achieve link for the 40G interface to come up. If DOM shows one lane with low receive power or high bit errors, the entire 40G link will fail or flap, even if three lanes are healthy.

Q: Can I use this transceiver in a 100G QSFP28 port?
A: No. QSFP28 ports are mechanically compatible but electrically designed for 100G signalling (4 x 25 Gbps lanes). This 40G QSFP+ module uses 4 x 10.3125 Gbps lanes and will not negotiate or establish a link in a QSFP28 slot expecting 100GBASE operation. Use only in native QSFP+ 40G ports.
