Description

This 960GB M.2 SATA solid-state drive (Micron G2) is built for Cisco UCS XE-Series compute nodes in the Cisco Unified Edge platform. It is intended as the boot and operating system drive for edge compute nodes in the UCS XE9305 chassis, covering bare-metal, virtualisation, container and AI/ML edge workloads.

The drive connects through the UCSXE-M2-HWRD2 boot-optimised M.2 RAID controller, which runs the SATA interface at 6Gb/s and supports two M.2 drives. Drives are fitted in matched pairs, with RAID 1 mirroring or JBOD available. The 960GB capacity sits above the 240GB and 480GB options in the same range, and capacities cannot be mixed within one compute node. Boot mode is UEFI only.

It is supported in the Cisco UCS XE130c and XE150c M8 compute nodes. The drive is not hot-pluggable, so the compute node must be powered off before replacement. Volume configuration and monitoring of the controller and M.2 drives are handled through Cisco Intersight, and no licence is required for the drive itself.

Features

- Boot-optimised M.2 SATA storage for Cisco Unified Edge compute nodes
- Hardware RAID 1 mirroring across two M.2 drives via the boot-optimised RAID controller
- JBOD mode supported for independent drive use
- Managed and monitored through Cisco Intersight
- Field-replaceable within the UCS XE9305 chassis compute nodes
- Optional fit: M.2 drives can be omitted because E3.S NVMe drives can also be used for booting

Warranty

All products sold by XS Network Tech include a 12-month warranty on both new and used items. Our in-house technical team thoroughly tests used hardware prior to sale to ensure enterprise-grade reliability.

FAQs

Q: Does this drive need a licence?
A: No licence is required for the drive itself. Volume configuration and monitoring of the M.2 controller and drives are handled through Cisco Intersight.

Q: Which compute nodes is it compatible with?
A: It is designed for the Cisco UCS XE130c and XE150c M8 compute nodes installed in the UCS XE9305 chassis. It is a separate part number from the UCSX-M2-960G-D (UCS X-Series) and UCS-M2-960G (C-Series) drives.

Q: Can I fit a single drive?
A: No. These drives are ordered in pairs, with a quantity of 0 or 2 per compute node. Both drives must be the same capacity, as mixing capacities in one node is not allowed.

Q: What RAID controller does it use?
A: It connects through the UCSXE-M2-HWRD2 M.2 RAID controller for UCS XE-Series compute nodes. The controller supports two M.2 drives in RAID 1 or JBOD.

Q: Can it be replaced while the node is running?
A: No. The drive is not hot-pluggable, so the compute node must be powered off before it is replaced.

Q: How does it differ from the other M.2 capacities?
A: This is the 960GB option. The same range also includes the UCSXE-M2-240G (240GB) and UCSXE-M2-480G (480GB), all used as boot drives behind the same RAID controller.
