Description

The Cisco Assurance SFP (formerly the Accedian Skylight SFP Sensor) is a smart 10GbE SFP+ transceiver that combines a 10GBASE-ER BiDi optic with an onboard FPGA for service assurance. It runs active Layer 2-4 traffic generation and performance monitoring from inside the SFP port, which suits Carrier Ethernet, mobile backhaul and IP service deployments that need service demarcation, SLA monitoring and service activation testing without extra rack space or head-end test equipment.

S10G-B40D-PM-D-I is the downstream half of an ER-BiDi pair, transmitting at 1330 nm and receiving at 1270 nm over a single strand of G.652 single-mode fibre with an LC simplex connector. Reach is 40 km with a 17 dB link budget, and the industrial temperature rating covers -40 to 85 C. Module power draw is 3.0 W from the host SFP+ port. It includes digital optical monitoring to SFF-8472 and IEEE-1588 PTP Class B support. The red bail identifies the downstream unit.

The sensor is managed from the Cisco Provider Connectivity Assurance platform, formerly Crosswork Assurance, and communicates with it by IP address. It must be paired with the S10G-B40U-PM-D-I (1270/1330 nm) at the far end of the link.
