Description

The QDD-400G-BD is a hot-swappable 400G QSFP-DD BiDi transceiver from the Cisco 400G QSFP-DD cable and transceiver module range. It carries 400GE over a single duplex multimode fibre pair with an LC UPC connector, making it suited to short-reach data centre links, including AI and cloud fabrics, where existing duplex LC MMF cabling is already in place.

It reaches 50 m on OM3, 70 m on OM4 and 100 m on OM5 fibre, using four 100Gbps bidirectional wavelengths per fibre at 850, 880, 910 and 940 nm. The electrical interface is 400GAUI-8, 8 x 26.5625GBd PAM4, with a line rate of 425 Gbps. Forward error correction is performed on the host platform, so the host port must support it. Because it reuses the same duplex LC connectors and MMF infrastructure as 40G and 100G BiDi optics, upgrading to 400G does not require fibre retermination or MPO conversion.

The module is designed for Cisco QSFP-DD 400G ports and is backward compatible with QSFP-100G-SR1.2 at 100G speed. Confirm host platform and software release support against the Cisco transceiver compatibility matrix before deployment.

Features

- Hot-swappable input/output device for Cisco QSFP-DD 400G Ethernet ports
- Certified and tested on Cisco QSFP-DD 400G ports
- Carries 400GE over one fibre pair using four 100Gbps bidirectional wavelengths per fibre
- Reuses existing duplex LC connectors and MMF infrastructure, so no fibre retermination or MPO conversion is needed
- Provides 6.4 Tbps total bandwidth over 16 fibre pairs, sixteen 400G links
- QSFP-DD ports are backward compatible with QSFP+, QSFP28 and QSFP56 modules
- Host-side FEC keeps the optical module design simple

FAQs

Q: What fibre does the QDD-400G-BD need?
A: It runs over duplex multimode fibre with a 50 µm core and an LC UPC connector. Reach is 50 m on OM3, 70 m on OM4 and 100 m on OM5.

Q: Do I need to recable from 40G or 100G BiDi links?
A: No. It uses the same duplex LC connectors and MMF infrastructure as 40G and 100G BiDi optics, so no fibre retermination or MPO conversion is needed.

Q: Does this module handle forward error correction itself?
A: No. FEC is performed on the host platform, so the Cisco port or switch must support it.

Q: Which ports does it work with?
A: It is designed for Cisco QSFP-DD 400G ports. It is also backward compatible with QSFP-100G-SR1.2 at 100G speed. Check the Cisco transceiver compatibility matrix for supported platforms and software releases.

Q: How does it differ from other 400G QSFP-DD optics?
A: It is a BiDi design that sends 400GE over a single duplex multimode fibre pair, rather than using parallel fibre with MPO connectors.
