Description

The N9K-C9800-SUP-B is the second-generation supervisor module for the Cisco Nexus 9800 Series modular data-centre switches. It handles all control-plane functions and is built for high-density spine and super-spine roles, as well as large-scale and AI/ML fabrics running 400G and 800G ports.

This 2nd Generation supervisor is built around an 8-core x86 CPU at 2.7 GHz with 64 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD storage. Front-panel connectivity includes a 10/100/1000 RJ-45 management Ethernet port, an RS-232 RJ45 console port, and USB Type-A and Type-B ports. Timing interfaces cover IEEE 1588 PTP, SyncE BITS/DTI/J.211, G.703 TOD, GNSS, 1PPS and 10 MHz. Maximum power consumption is 95 W per supervisor. The supervisor itself carries no separate licence, while Nexus 9800 features are licensed under Cisco Data Center Networking (DCN) Essentials, Advantage or Premier.

It fits the N9K-C9808 (8-slot) and N9K-C9804 (4-slot) chassis, each with two supervisor slots for 1+1 control-plane redundancy. It interoperates with the N9K-X9836E-SP2R-O, N9K-X9836DM-A and N9K-X98900CD-A line cards and requires NX-OS 10.6(2)F or later.

Q: Does the supervisor module need its own licence?
A: No. The supervisor module itself has no separate licence. Nexus 9800 features are licensed under Cisco Data Center Networking (DCN) Essentials, Advantage or Premier, and some features such as MACsec need add-on licences.

Q: Which chassis does the N9K-C9800-SUP-B fit?
A: It fits the N9K-C9808 (8-slot) and N9K-C9804 (4-slot) chassis. Each chassis has two supervisor slots, which allows 1+1 control-plane redundancy.
