Description

The Nexus 7000 M1-Series 48-port 10/100/1000 module is a copper RJ-45 line card for Nexus 7000 chassis. It is built on the M1-XL forwarding engine, which supports the larger FIB and ACL tables needed for Internet exchange points, service provider networks and large enterprise or data centre deployments.

Each card provides 48 ports of 10/100/1000 Ethernet over RJ-45, with 48 Gbps of local switching and a 46 Gbps per direction (92 Gbps full duplex) connection to the switch fabric. The forwarding engine delivers 60 Mpps of Layer 2/Layer 3 IPv4 unicast and 30 Mpps of IPv6 unicast. In XL mode it scales to 1M IPv4 routes, 350K IPv6 routes and 128K ACL entries, against 128K, 64K and 64K in standard mode. It also holds 128K MAC entries and supports jumbo frames up to 9216 bytes. A 10-slot chassis reaches 384 ports and an 18-slot chassis reaches 768 ports.

This is the copper-port, XL-option version of the M1-Series 48-port card. The SFP-port equivalent is the N7K-M148GS-11L. The card works in all Nexus 7000 chassis with Fabric-1 or Fabric-2 modules and SUP1, SUP2 or SUP2E supervisors, and requires NX-OS 5.1 or later.

Q: Does XL mode need a licence?
A: No licence is needed to run the card in standard mode. XL mode, which unlocks the full forwarding table, requires the optional Nexus 7000 Scalable Feature License, ordered per chassis. MACsec and TrustSec features also need a software licence.

Q: Which Nexus 7000 chassis and software does it work with?
A: It is supported in all Nexus 7000 chassis, with Fabric-1 or Fabric-2 modules and SUP1, SUP2 or SUP2E supervisors. It requires NX-OS 5.1 or later.

Q: How does it differ from the N7K-M148GS-11L?
A: This card has 48 copper 10/100/1000 RJ-45 ports. The N7K-M148GS-11L has 48 x 1GbE SFP ports for optical or SFP-based connections.
