Description

The Nexus 7700 F3-Series 48-port module is a high-density, low-latency 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet line card for the Nexus 7700 modular chassis. Built on the F3-Series switch-on-a-chip ASIC, it gives data centre, cloud and converged networks 48 wire-rate SFP/SFP+ ports for aggregation and access, and it also suits data centre interconnect with OTV, VPLS and MPLS, as well as VXLAN overlay fabrics.

Each module delivers 720 Mpps of Layer 2 and Layer 3 forwarding for IPv4 and IPv6 and up to 480 Gbps of data throughput, backed by a 72 MB virtual output queue buffer, with 4 ingress and 8 egress queues per port. Table sizes include 64,000 MAC addresses, 64,000 IPv4 entries, 32,000 IPv6 entries and 16,000 ACLs, with 4096 VLANs per VDC and jumbo frames up to 9216 bytes. This SKU is the fibre 48-port 1/10G variant without the FCoE licence. Integrated FCoE support is available with the separate N77-FCOE-F348XP licence.

The card is supported in all Nexus 7700 chassis (2-, 6-, 10- and 18-slot) and requires NX-OS 6.2.6 or later. Maximum density reaches 768 x 10GbE ports in an 18-slot chassis. SFP and SFP+ optics are selected to suit the link, covering 10G SR, LR, LRM, ER and ZR optics, FET-10G, twinax and AOC cables, and 1G SX, LH, EX, ZX, copper, BX, CWDM and DWDM options.

Q: Does this line card include FCoE?
A: No. Integrated FCoE support on this module needs the separate N77-FCOE-F348XP licence.

Q: Which chassis and software does it need?
A: It is supported in all Nexus 7700 chassis (2-, 6-, 10- and 18-slot) and requires Cisco NX-OS 6.2.6 or later.

Q: Which optics work with the SFP/SFP+ ports?
A: For 10G the datasheet lists SFP-10G-SR, SFP-10G-LR, SFP-10G-LRM, SFP-10G-ER, SFP-10G-ZR, FET-10G, DWDM-SFP10G, SFP-H10GB-CU/ACU twinax and SFP-10G-AOC. For 1G it lists GLC-SX-MMD, GLC-LH-SMD, GLC-EX-SMD, GLC-ZX-SMD, GLC-T, SFP-GE-T, GLC-BX-U/D, CWDM-SFP and DWDM-SFP.

Q: Are there any port limitations on the optics?
A: SFP-10G-LRM over multimode fibre works on ports 41-48 only. SFP-10G-SR-S, SFP-10G-LR-S and SFP-10G-ER-S do not support FCoE.

Q: Which ports support MACsec?
A: 802.1AE MACsec with AES-128 is supported on ports 41-48.

Q: How many of these modules can one chassis hold?
A: It occupies one I/O module slot. An 18-slot chassis reaches up to 768 x 10GbE ports, a 10-slot 384, a 6-slot 192, and a 2-slot chassis gives 48 x 1/10GbE.
