Description

This rugged 1000BASE-LX/LH SFP transceiver from the Cisco SFP Modules for Gigabit Ethernet family is built for industrial and harsh-environment Gigabit Ethernet fibre links. It suits Industrial Ethernet switches, rugged routers and ASR 900 aggregation where a long-reach single-mode uplink is needed.

It operates at 1310 nm and reaches up to 10 km over ITU-T G.652 single-mode fibre, or up to 550 m over multimode fibre when a mode-conditioning patch cord is used. The LC duplex connector and IEEE 802.3z 1000BASE-LX compliance keep it interoperable with other 1000BASE-LX/LH SFPs. The industrial temperature class covers -40 to 85 C, and Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) is supported. No licence or subscription is required, and the module draws power from the host SFP port.

It fits Cisco switches and routers with Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports, including the ASR 900 interface modules, Industrial Ethernet 3000 and IE3500 Rugged switches, IR1800 rugged routers and the IC3000 gateway. On very short single-mode spans, an inline optical attenuator may be needed to avoid overloading the receiver.

FAQs

Q: Does this SFP need a licence or subscription?
A: No. The module works as a standard optical interface and needs no licence or subscription.

Q: Can it be used over multimode fibre?
A: Yes, up to 550 m, but a mode-conditioning patch cord is required. For full 10 km reach, use standard single-mode fibre.

Q: Which Cisco platforms is it listed for?
A: It fits Cisco switches and routers with Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports, including ASR 900 interface modules, Industrial Ethernet 3000 and IE3500 Rugged switches, IR1800 rugged routers and the IC3000 gateway.

Q: Will it link to other 1000BASE-LX/LH SFPs?
A: Yes. It interoperates with other 1000BASE-LX/LH SFPs, so the far end does not have to be the same part number.

Q: How does it differ from a standard GLC-LH-SMD?
A: This rugged variant is rated for the industrial temperature range of -40 to 85 C and supports DOM, making it suited to harsh environments.

Q: Do I need an attenuator on short single-mode links?
A: On very short single-mode spans with low link loss, an inline optical attenuator may be needed to avoid overloading the receiver.
