Description

The ONS 15216 C-band coupler and splitter pluggable is a passive, bidirectional DWDM component that fits inside ONS 15216 odd and even patch panels. It is used to upgrade existing 100 GHz DWDM patch-panel systems to 50 GHz channel spacing, and to interconnect odd and even patch panels of different grids to extend network capacity.

In mux mode it combines two 100 GHz streams (odd and even) into one 50 GHz-spaced stream, and in demux mode it splits the signal evenly into two output streams. It covers the full C-band from 191.35 to 196.1 THz (1528.77 to 1566.72 nm), with insertion loss of 2.5 to 3.5 dB, optical return loss of 40 dB minimum and low chromatic dispersion. This is the single coupler/splitter version without monitor ports. Optical connections use LC/UPC II ports, and a USB Type A inventory port is provided for inventory identification.

The pluggable installs inside ONS 15216-MD-40, ONS 15216-EF-40 or ONS 15216-MD-48 patch panels and interfaces 80-channel and 96-channel wavelength plans. Fitting it at the first installation of the patch panel allows a later capacity upgrade without affecting live traffic.

FAQs

Q: Does this coupler/splitter need a licence or power?
A: No. It is a passive optical component with no licence or subscription and no power supply. Each port handles at least 500 mW of optical power.

Q: Which patch panels does it install in?
A: It installs inside ONS 15216-MD-40, ONS 15216-EF-40 or ONS 15216-MD-48 odd and even patch panels. It interfaces 80-channel and 96-channel wavelength plans.

Q: How does it differ from the CME2 and MD-48-CM versions?
A: This model is a single coupler/splitter without monitor ports. The 15216-MD48-CME2 is a 2x2 dual coupler/splitter with monitor ports, and the ONS 15216-MD-48-CM is an interleaver/deinterleaver.

Q: What does it do in mux and demux mode?
A: In mux mode it combines two 100 GHz streams (odd and even) into one 50 GHz-spaced stream. In demux mode it splits the signal evenly into two output streams.

Q: What optical connectors does it use?
A: All optical ports use LC/UPC II connectors. A USB Type A receptacle provides the inventory port.
