Description

The ONS 15216 48-Channel 50-GHz De-Interleaver with Coupler is a passive DWDM module for service-provider metro networks that need to grow channel capacity without taking the system out of service. It plugs into the ONS 15216 Exposed Faceplate Mux/Demux 40-Channel or 48-Channel Patch Panel and doubles capacity in service, from 40 to 80 channels or from 48 to 96 channels.

The de-interleaver stage has an insertion loss of 1.5 dB minimum and 2.5 dB maximum, with 25 dB minimum adjacent channel isolation and an operating bandwidth of plus or minus 10 GHz. The coupler stage adds 2.5 dB minimum and 3.5 dB maximum insertion loss. The module measures 62.2 x 67.2 x 251.7 mm and weighs 0.5 kg at most, and it operates from -5 to 65 C.

The coupler on the transmit stage reduces filtering penalties compared with an interleaver, so this variant is recommended for systems carrying 100-Gbps wavelengths. It is listed as compatible with the 15216-EF-40, 15216-MD-48 and 15216-MD-40 ODD and EVEN patch panels, and it can also be used in an 80- or 96-channel standalone configuration.

FAQs

Q: Which patch panels does this module work with?
A: It is listed as compatible with the 15216-EF-40, 15216-MD-48 and 15216-MD-40 ODD and EVEN patch panels. The older 15216-MD-ID-50 interleaver/de-interleaver is not compatible with the 48-channel patch panel.

Q: How much capacity can it add?
A: It upgrades a 40-channel system to 80 channels or a 48-channel system to 96 channels, and the upgrade can be done in service.

Q: Does it need a separate power supply or licence?
A: No. It is a passive optical module with no separate power supply, and no licence is required.

Q: Why choose the coupler variant for 100G wavelengths?
A: The coupler on the transmit stage reduces filtering penalties compared with an interleaver, so this variant is recommended for systems carrying 100-Gbps wavelengths.

Q: Can it be used without an existing patch panel?
A: Yes. It can also be used in an 80- or 96-channel standalone configuration.
