Description

The 15216 LC/UPC fixed optical attenuator is a passive 2 dB inline attenuator for reducing optical signal power at a receiver. It suits short fibre links where a transceiver would otherwise be overloaded, and level matching in DWDM and optical transport deployments built around the ONS 15216 and NCS 2000 range.

This variant provides a fixed attenuation of 2 dB with an LC connector, in a bulk (inline) format. Being a passive component, it needs no power and no configuration. It is one of a family of fixed LC attenuators offered in 2, 3, 5, 10, 12, 15 and 18 dB values, so the 2 dB value is the choice when only a small reduction in optical power is required.

It is listed as an optical accessory in the Cisco Network Convergence System 2000 Series documentation and is used alongside LC optical transceivers and optical transport equipment.

- Format: Bulk (inline)
- Power: Passive, no power required

FAQs

Q: Does this attenuator need power or configuration?
A: No. It is a passive component, so it requires no power and no configuration. It is simply connected inline in the fibre path.

Q: What connector type does it use?
A: It uses an LC connector, which suits LC-terminated fibre patch leads and LC optical transceivers.

Q: When would I use a 2 dB attenuator instead of a higher value?
A: A 2 dB value is used when only a small reduction in received optical power is needed, for example fine level matching in optical transport links. Higher values such as 5 dB or 10 dB are used where the signal is much stronger.

Q: Which Cisco systems is this attenuator used with?
A: It is listed as an optical accessory for the Cisco ONS 15216 DWDM system and the Network Convergence System 2000 Series. It can also be used to reduce received power on LC optical links.
