Description

The Intel Xeon Platinum 8280L is a 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable (Cascade Lake) processor supplied by Cisco as a CPU option for UCS M5 rack servers. It is the large-memory 'L' variant, built for in-memory databases, SAP deployments and large virtualised footprints where memory capacity matters as much as core count.

The processor has 28 cores and 56 threads, a 2.7 GHz base frequency with turbo up to 4.0 GHz, 38.5 MB of L3 cache and a 205 W TDP. It has three UPI links at 10.4 GT/s and supports DDR4 memory up to 2933 MHz. As a large-memory part it supports up to 4.5 TB of memory per socket, compared with 1.5 TB on the standard UCS-CPU-I8280. It uses the LGA3647 socket and is manufactured on a 14 nm process.

This CPU is listed as an option for the Cisco UCS C220 M5, C240 M5, C240 M5L and the eight-socket C890 M5 servers. It supports Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory on compatible UCS M5 servers. No licence or subscription is required. Server power supplies and heatsinks must be sized for the 205 W TDP.
