A: Passive DAC cables use copper twinax conductors with no active components, consuming minimal power (<0.15W) and offering excellent cost-effectiveness for short distances up to 3 meters. AOCs use optical fiber with integrated transceivers, suitable for longer distances (7-100m+) but at higher cost and power consumption. For 2-meter connections, passive DAC is the optimal choice.

Q: Can this cable be used to connect 100G QSFP28 network cards?
A: No. This QSFP56 breakout cable uses 2x50G PAM4 modulation per 100G port, while QSFP28 uses 4x25G NRZ modulation. You need network adapters or switches with native QSFP56 100G ports that support PAM4 signaling. Standard QSFP28 ports are not compatible.

Q: Does my switch need to support breakout mode for this cable?
A: Yes. The 200G QSFP56 port must be configured in breakout mode (typically 1x200G to 2x100G) to recognize and utilize both 100G endpoints. Most modern NVIDIA/Mellanox Spectrum, Quantum InfiniBand, and compatible switches support this configuration via CLI or management interface.

Q: Is this cable compatible with NVIDIA Spectrum and Quantum switches?
