FAQs

Q: Does the MR56 require a Meraki license to operate?
A: Yes, the MR56 requires a valid Meraki cloud license for full operation and management through the Meraki Dashboard. The license enables cloud management, automatic firmware updates, advanced security features, and analytics.

Q: What environments is the MR56 best suited for?
A: The MR56 is designed for high-density indoor environments including corporate offices, schools, hospitals, retail stores, hotels, and conference centers where multiple concurrent users require reliable, high-bandwidth connectivity for applications like video conferencing and streaming.

Q: What is the difference between the dedicated third and fourth radios?
A: The third radio is a dedicated dual-band scanning radio that provides 24/7 wireless intrusion detection/prevention (WIDS/WIPS), RF spectrum analysis, and automated optimization without impacting client throughput. The fourth radio is a Bluetooth Low Energy radio for beaconing and device scanning, enabling location services and IoT applications.

Q: How many concurrent clients can the MR56 support?
A: The MR56 can support hundreds of concurrent clients depending on the network environment, configuration, and application requirements. The 8x8:8 MU-MIMO and OFDMA capabilities optimize performance in high-density deployments with many simultaneous users.

Q: What power injector do I need if my switch doesn't support PoE+?
A: Meraki offers the MA-INJ-5 multigigabit 802.3at PoE+ injector specifically designed for the MR56 to deliver both power and full 5 Gbps data throughput. Alternatively, standard 802.3at PoE+ injectors can be used, though data speeds may be limited to 1 Gbps.
