Description

The CPAC-TR-40SR-QSFPBiDi-D-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Check Point CPAC-TR-40SR-QSFPBiDi-D. This QSFP+ transceiver delivers plug-and-play compatibility with Check Point security appliances and provides 40 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity over duplex LC multi-mode fibre. - IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-SR-BD and QSFP+ MSA SFF-8436 compliance ensure seamless integration with Check Point platforms and standards-based interoperability - Bidirectional transmission using 832nm and 918nm wavelengths over duplex LC multi-mode fibre, supporting 100m on OM3 and 150m on OM4 - Two-lane architecture with 20Gbps per lane bidirectional signaling for 40Gbps aggregate throughput - Hot-swappable QSFP+ form factor with DDM/DOM support for real-time optical diagnostics via I2C interface - Duplex LC connector enables reuse of existing 10G fibre infrastructure for 40G migration without MPO cabling - Operating temperature range 0 to 70 degrees Celsius for standard commercial networking environments

Features

• IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-SR-BD standard compliance guarantees interoperability with any standards-compliant 40G BiDi link and ensures proper operation across Check Point security appliance platforms
• Two-lane bidirectional architecture transmits and receives 20Gbps per lane simultaneously on separate wavelengths (850nm/900nm pairs) over a single duplex fibre, reducing fibre consumption compared to parallel SR4 optics
• Duplex LC interface preserves existing 10G cabling infrastructure for 40G upgrades without requiring MPO-12 ribbon cables or breakout assemblies
• DDM/DOM optical monitoring accessible via I2C provides real-time visibility into transmit power, receive power, temperature, voltage, and bias current for proactive link maintenance
• Hot-swappable QSFP+ form factor supports field insertion and removal without powering down the host appliance, minimizing network disruption during maintenance
• VCSEL laser technology operating at 850nm and 900nm wavelengths optimized for multi-mode fibre transmission with standard OM3 and OM4 cables
• QSFP+ MSA SFF-8436 mechanical and electrical compliance ensures reliable operation in Check Point CPAC-2-40F-B I/O modules and equivalent 40G QSFP+ ports

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Check Point CPAC-TR-40SR-QSFPBiDi-D?
A: Yes. This transceiver is built to the same IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-SR-BD standard, uses the same QSFP+ form factor, duplex LC connector, and 832nm/918nm wavelength pair, and delivers the same 40Gbps data rate. It is plug-and-play compatible with Check Point security appliances that specify the CPAC-TR-40SR-QSFPBiDi-D.

Q: Which Check Point appliances support this transceiver?
A: This module is compatible with Check Point models 9700, 9800, 19200, 29000, MHO140, and MHO175 when used with the CPAC-2-40F-B I/O module. It is designed for any Check Point platform with QSFP+ ports that support 40GBASE-SR-BD BiDi optics over multi-mode fibre.

Q: How does BiDi architecture work and why does it use two wavelengths?
A: BiDi optics transmit and receive on the same fibre pair simultaneously using wavelength division. Each module transmits on one wavelength (850nm or 900nm) and receives on the other. At the link partner end, the wavelengths are reversed. This allows full-duplex 40Gbps transmission over two fibres instead of the eight fibres required by 40GBASE-SR4 MPO optics.

Q: What is the difference in reach between OM3 and OM4 fibre for this module?
A: OM3 fibre supports up to 100m reach, while OM4 supports up to 150m. The difference is due to modal bandwidth: OM4 has 4700 MHz·km effective modal bandwidth at 850nm compared to OM3's 2000 MHz·km, allowing lower signal dispersion and longer transmission distances at 40Gbps. Both distances assume clean connections and link loss within the 2 dB optical budget.

Q: Can I mix this BiDi transceiver with 40GBASE-SR4 modules on the same link?
A: No. BiDi transceivers require a matched BiDi pair with complementary wavelengths (one transmits 850nm/receives 900nm, the other transmits 900nm/receives 850nm) on duplex LC fibre. SR4 modules use parallel optics with four 10Gbps lanes over eight fibres via MPO connectors. The architectures are incompatible and cannot interoperate on the same physical link.
