Description

The CPAC-TR-40ER-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Checkpoint CPAC-TR-40ER. This QSFP+ transceiver operates plug-and-play in Checkpoint 9700, 9800, 19200, and 29000 series security appliances requiring 40GBASE-ER4 connectivity. - IEEE 802.3bm 40GBASE-ER4 compliance guarantees interoperability with standard 40G single-mode interfaces over duplex LC fiber - Four CWDM lanes at 1271nm, 1291nm, 1311nm, 1331nm wavelengths deliver 40Gbps aggregate throughput up to 40km over OS2 single-mode fibre - QSFP+ MSA form factor with duplex LC connector simplifies cabling compared to parallel fibre solutions - Digital diagnostic monitoring via I2C interface provides real-time access to transmit power, receive power, temperature, and voltage parameters - Hot-swappable design enables installation and replacement without powering down the host appliance - OTU3 support at 43.01Gbps extends utility beyond Ethernet to optical transport network applications

Features

• Four independent 10.3125Gbps CWDM lanes are multiplexed onto a single duplex fibre pair, transmitting and receiving on four discrete wavelengths simultaneously for full 40Gbps bidirectional throughput
• IEEE 802.3bm compliance ensures the module interoperates with any standards-compliant 40GBASE-ER4 port, eliminating vendor lock-in for long-reach metropolitan and regional network links
• 19dB minimum link budget over OS2 9/125µm single-mode fibre supports distances up to 40km, suitable for data centre interconnects, metro rings, and enterprise campus backbone connections
• Real-time DDM access via I2C exposes per-channel optical power levels, laser bias current, module temperature, and supply voltage, enabling proactive link health monitoring and troubleshooting
• Duplex LC interface reuses existing single-mode infrastructure without requiring MPO/MTP parallel fibre, reducing cabling complexity and cost in brownfield deployments
• Hot-pluggable QSFP+ form factor supports field installation and replacement without system downtime, critical for high-availability security appliance environments

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Checkpoint CPAC-TR-40ER?
A: Yes. The CPAC-TR-40ER-BCC is IEEE 802.3bm 40GBASE-ER4 compliant and matches the QSFP+ form factor, 40Gbps data rate, CWDM wavelength set, and 40km reach of the original Checkpoint module. It is plug-and-play compatible with Checkpoint 9700, 9800, 19200, and 29000 series appliances.

Q: Which Checkpoint security appliances support this transceiver?
A: Checkpoint 9700, 9800, 19200, and 29000 series appliances with QSFP+ ports support this module. These platforms include QSFP28 ports that operate in 40G mode with 40GBASE-ER4 transceivers, as confirmed in the Checkpoint Appliance Accessory Guide.

Q: What fibre type and attenuation conditions are required for 40km reach?
A: This module requires OS2 9/125µm single-mode fibre with maximum attenuation of 0.5 dB/km at 1310nm. The 19dB link budget accommodates 40km of compliant fibre plus connector and splice losses. Links exceeding 30km or operating near the power budget limit should be treated as engineered links per IEEE 802.3 Table 87-6.

Q: How are the four CWDM wavelengths used in 40GBASE-ER4 transmission?
A: Each of the four wavelengths (1271nm, 1291nm, 1311nm, 1331nm) carries an independent 10.3125Gbps lane. The module multiplexes these onto one fibre strand for transmit and demultiplexes the corresponding four wavelengths from the receive strand. This WDM approach avoids the need for 12-fibre MPO cabling used in 40GBASE-SR4.

Q: Does this transceiver support 4x10G breakout to separate SFP+ interfaces?
A: No. 40GBASE-ER4 uses CWDM wavelength multiplexing over duplex LC, not parallel lanes over MPO. Breakout to four independent 10GBASE-LR links is not supported. For breakout applications, use a 40GBASE-SR4 or 40GBASE-LR4 module with a 12-fibre MPO to 4x duplex LC breakout cable.
