Description

The CPAC-TR-10T-D-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Checkpoint CPAC-TR-10T-D. This SFP+ copper transceiver plugs into Check Point Quantum security gateways and provides 10GbE connectivity over standard twisted-pair cabling. - IEEE 802.3an 10GBASE-T compliance guarantees interoperability with any 10GbE copper port - SFP+ form factor, 10Gbps data rate, RJ45 connector, 30m maximum reach over CAT6A or CAT7 cable - Multi-rate auto-negotiation supports 1000BASE-T, 2.5GBASE-T, 5GBASE-T, and 10GBASE-T on a single module - Limited DOM telemetry includes case temperature, supply voltage, and link status (no optical parameters on copper modules) - Hot-swappable design for installation without interrupting adjacent ports - Commercial temperature range 0 to 65 degrees C on 3.3V single supply

Features

• IEEE 802.3an conformance ensures the module negotiates 10GBASE-T with any standards-compliant host, while 802.3bz and 802.3ab deliver automatic fallback to 5G, 2.5G, or 1G rates when connected to multi-rate endpoints without manual reconfiguration
• The 10GBASE-T PHY actively cancels echo and crosstalk across all four twisted pairs, which requires higher power draw than short-reach optical SFP+ modules and may approach the upper end of the host switch per-port power budget
• SFF-8431 and SFF-8432 electrical interfaces guarantee the module enumerates correctly in Check Point SFP+ cages and presents management data via the standard I2C interface
• CAT6A or CAT7 cable is required to sustain 10Gbps at the full 30m distance; CAT5e and CAT6 support lower rates under 802.3bz but are not rated for 10G at this reach
• Hot-swappable insertion and removal allows transceiver changes without powering down the host appliance or disrupting traffic on adjacent ports
• DOM telemetry on copper modules is limited to temperature, voltage, and link status because there is no laser; transmit power, receive power, and bias current fields do not apply to RJ45 transceivers

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Checkpoint CPAC-TR-10T-D?
A: Yes. This module is coded to the CPAC-TR-10T-D vendor profile and operates per IEEE 802.3an for 10GBASE-T, with the same SFP+ form factor, RJ45 interface, 30m reach over CAT6A or CAT7, and multi-rate support down to 1000BASE-T. The module enumerates as a Check Point transceiver and is plug-and-play compatible with Quantum security gateways.

Q: Which Check Point appliances support this transceiver?
A: This transceiver is designed for Check Point Quantum security gateways with SFP+ ports. Typical platforms include the 9000, 19000, and 29000 series appliances. The module requires an SFP+ cage that meets the 10GBASE-T power budget; consult the current Check Point Appliance Accessory Guide or verify with Check Point support if deploying across multiple gateway generations.

Q: Why does 10GBASE-T require CAT6A or CAT7 cable for the full 30m reach?
A: The IEEE 802.3an standard specifies CAT6A as the minimum cable category for 10GBASE-T at 30m because the PHY must cancel alien crosstalk and maintain signal integrity across all four pairs simultaneously. CAT6 is rated only to 55m under ideal conditions and often fails in real-world deployments due to termination quality and bundled cable interference. CAT5e supports 1000BASE-T and may carry 2.5GBASE-T over typical horizontal runs under 802.3bz, but it is not suitable for 10G at any distance.

Q: How much power does this module draw compared to a 10G optical SFP+ transceiver?
A: A 10GBASE-T copper module typically draws 2 to 2.5W, compared to under 1W for a 10GBASE-SR optical transceiver or near-zero for passive DAC. The higher consumption comes from the active DSP that performs four-pair echo cancellation and crosstalk suppression in real time. Switches designed for low-power optical SFP+ may have per-port or aggregate power limits that restrict the number of copper modules you can populate simultaneously; verify the host power budget before filling every cage with 10GBASE-T.

Q: Does the multi-rate feature allow this module to connect a 10G switch port to a 2.5G or 5G endpoint?
A: Yes. The module auto-negotiates the highest common rate between the host SFP+ port and the remote device. This makes it practical for mixed-speed deployments such as a 10G top-of-rack switch connecting to a 2.5G Wi-Fi 6 access point or a 5G server NIC, without needing separate transceivers for each speed tier. The negotiation is automatic and requires no manual configuration.
