Description

The CPAC-DAC-40G-xM-D-BCC is a drop-in compatible replacement for the Check Point CPAC-DAC-40G-1M-D. This passive copper direct attach cable provides plug-and-play connectivity for Check Point security appliances with QSFP+ ports. - IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-CR4 and QSFP+ MSA SFF-8436 compliance guarantee interoperability with any standards-compliant QSFP+ port - QSFP+ to QSFP+ twinaxial copper construction supports four 10Gb/s lanes for 40Gb/s aggregate throughput - 28AWG passive copper design requires no external power and delivers low latency for rack and adjacent rack interconnects - Available in 1M, 2M, and 5M lengths to suit different cabinet depths and aisle cross-connects - Operating case temperature range of 0 to 70 degrees Celsius supports standard data centre environments - Hot-pluggable QSFP+ connectors with latching mechanism for secure, tool-free installation and removal

Features

• IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-CR4 compliance guarantees electrical and protocol compatibility with any vendor QSFP+ port that follows the standard, eliminating concerns about vendor lock-in or proprietary signalling.

• Four-lane architecture transmits 10.3125Gb/s per lane over balanced twinaxial copper pairs, with each lane independently meeting jitter, skew, and signal integrity requirements defined in the 40GBASE-CR4 specification.

• Passive copper design eliminates active signal conditioning components, reducing power draw to zero at the cable level and removing potential points of failure compared to active copper or AOC alternatives.

• Twinaxial 28AWG construction balances flexibility for dense cabinet routing with shielding performance to maintain signal integrity and minimise crosstalk at 40Gb/s over distances up to 5 metres.

• Hot-swap capability allows cable replacement without powering down the host appliance, with QSFP+ electrical interface supporting module insertion and removal while the port remains enabled.

• SFF-8436 mechanical and I2C interface compliance provides standardised digital diagnostics access for temperature monitoring and link status verification through the host management plane.

• Operating specification from 0 to 70 degrees Celsius case temperature suits standard raised-floor and contained aisle data centre cooling architectures without requiring additional thermal management.

FAQs

Q: Will this work in place of the Check Point CPAC-DAC-40G-1M-D?
A: Yes. The CPAC-DAC-40G-xM-D-BCC implements the same 40GBASE-CR4 electrical interface and QSFP+ form factor as the Check Point original. It is plug-and-play compatible with any Check Point appliance that specifies CPAC-DAC-40G-xM-D cables, including models with CPAC-2-40F-B and CPAC-2-40F-C I/O modules. The cable meets IEEE 802.3ba and SFF-8436 specifications, ensuring full interoperability.

Q: Which Check Point appliances support this cable?
A: This cable is compatible with Check Point security appliances equipped with 40G QSFP+ I/O modules, including models in the 5800, 5900, 6800, 15000, and 23000 series. Compatibility depends on the presence of a QSFP+ port and does not require specific firmware versions, as the 40GBASE-CR4 electrical interface is hardware-defined and vendor-neutral.

Q: What is the maximum reliable reach for this passive copper cable?
A: Passive copper DAC cables are specified for reach up to 5 metres under 40GBASE-CR4. Beyond 5M, signal attenuation and crosstalk degrade bit error rate performance. For longer runs, fibre-based 40GBASE-SR4 or 40GBASE-LR4 transceivers with appropriate multimode or single-mode fibre patch cables are required. The passive design trades reach for zero power consumption and lowest cost per port.

Q: Can I use different cable lengths on ports within the same appliance?
A: Yes. Each QSFP+ port operates independently, and cable length does not affect interoperability between ports. The 40GBASE-CR4 specification defines electrical margins that accommodate length variation from 0.5M to 5M without requiring port-side configuration changes. You can deploy 1M cables for same-rack connections and 5M cables for cross-aisle links on the same appliance without performance penalty.

Q: Does this cable support Infiniband or only Ethernet?
A: This cable supports both 40 Gigabit Ethernet (40GBASE-CR4) and Infiniband QDR and FDR rates, as both standards share the QSFP+ mechanical interface and use similar four-lane electrical signalling. However, protocol support depends on the host port configuration. Check Point appliances configure QSFP+ ports for Ethernet, so Infiniband operation requires a host that explicitly enables IB mode on the port.
