FAQs

Q: How many access points can the C9800-L-C-K9 support?
A: The base configuration supports up to 250 access points and 5,000 clients with 5 Gbps throughput. With the optional performance license (LIC-C9800L-PERF), capacity increases to 500 access points, 10,000 clients, and 9 Gbps throughput.

Q: What is the difference between C9800-L-C-K9 and C9800-L-F-K9?
A: The C9800-L-C-K9 features copper uplinks with 4x multigigabit RJ45 ports (1G/2.5G) and 2x 10G SFP+ ports, while the C9800-L-F-K9 has fiber uplinks with 4x 1G/2.5G RJ45 ports and 2x 10G SFP+ fiber ports. Both models support the same AP and client capacity.

Q: Does the C9800-L-C-K9 require a Cisco DNA license?
A: Yes, Cisco DNA subscriptions (Essentials, Advantage, or Premier) are required for access points to join the controller. The controller itself boots without licenses, but AP connectivity and advanced features require active DNA subscriptions assigned to the managed access points.

Q: What high availability features does the C9800-L-C-K9 support?
A: The controller supports Stateful Switchover (SSO) for active-standby redundancy, In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU) for zero-downtime updates, hot and cold patching for continuous uptime, and intelligent rolling AP upgrades to maintain client sessions during planned and unplanned events.

Q: Which access points are compatible with the C9800-L-C-K9?
A: The controller supports Cisco Catalyst 9100 Series Wi-Fi 6 access points and Aironet 802.11ac Wave 1 and Wave 2 access points. It runs Cisco IOS XE and integrates with Cisco Catalyst Center for centralized management and automation.
