Description

The ASR 901 is a compact, hardened 1RU aggregation router built for cell-site and Carrier Ethernet access deployments. It backhauls mixed-generation radio access network traffic as part of the Cisco Unified RAN Backhaul solution, carrying multivendor traffic over Carrier Ethernet, microwave, WiMAX and service-provider Wi-Fi transport.

This A901-6CZ-FS-A variant is an Ethernet-only chassis with no TDM ports. It provides 2 x 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ ports, 4 x 10/100/1000 RJ-45 ports, 4 x GE SFP ports and 4 x GE combo ports. It supports Secure Mobile Transport with IPsec and NAPT, runs from a single AC supply at 100-240 V, and adds a USB port alongside the console port. Operating temperature extends from -40 to 65 C, with three redundant fans in a chassis measuring 43.2 x 444.5 x 231 mm.

It works with SFP and SFP+ optics including GLC-SX-MMD, GLC-LH-SMD, GLC-T, SFP-10G-SR and SFP-10G-LR, as well as SFP-H10GB direct attach cables. Rack mount kits are available for 19-inch, 23-inch, ETSI and wall installations.

Q: Does it need feature licences?
A: It runs Cisco IOS Software with per-chassis feature licences. The Base licence SL-A901-B covers Layer 2/3, SyncE and 1588 Ordinary Clock. Optional licences include Advanced IP Metro (SL-A901-A), Advanced Timing (SL-A901-T), IP Security (SL-A901-I) and Network Virtualization (SL-A901-NV).

Q: Which optics work in the 10G ports?
A: The SFP+ ports support SFP-10G-SR, SFP-10G-LR, SFP-10G-ER, SFP-10G-ZR, SFP-10G-LRM and DWDM-SFP+ optics, plus SFP-H10GB-CU direct attach cables.

Q: How is it powered?
A: It has a single AC power supply (AC only) accepting 100-240 V at 50-60 Hz, with maximum power dissipation of 58 W. It does not provide PoE.

Q: What rack mounting options are available?
A: Kits are available for 19-inch (A901Z-RCKMNT-19IN), 23-inch (A901Z-RCKMNT-23IN), ETSI (A901Z-RCKMNT-ETSI), recessed versions of each, and wall mounting (A901Z-RCKMNT-WALL).

Q: How does this model differ from other ASR 901 variants?
A: This SKU is Ethernet-only with 10GE ports, IPsec/NAPT support, AC power and a USB port. TDM interfaces are only present on the -FT- models.
