Description

The ONS 15216 dispersion compensation shelf is a passive mechanical housing, 1RU high, built for metro DWDM transport networks. It holds Cisco ONS 15216 Dispersion Compensation Unit (DCU) modules, which compensate for accumulated chromatic dispersion in-line, typically between amplifiers or between a WSS and an amplifier. It suits operators upgrading from 2.5G to 10G and 40G services.

This mechanical shelf provides 2 DCM slots and fits 19-inch or 23-inch racks and bays. The two slots can carry opposite-direction traffic (east-to-west and west-to-east), or both slots can be cascaded in one direction for a higher total compensation than a single module. The shelf is entirely passive, needs no power supply and requires no licence or subscription. Operating temperature is -5 to +55 C at up to 95% relative humidity, noncondensing.

The shelf supports ONS 15216 DCU modules across the C-band, L-band and E-LEAF ranges, covering 1525 to 1565 nm and 1576 to 1605 nm. Compatible modules include the 15216-DCU-100 to 15216-DCU-1950 C-band units, the 15216-DCU-L-300 to 15216-DCU-L-1100 L-band units and the 15216-DCU-E-200 and 15216-DCU-E-350 E-LEAF units. The DCU modules themselves are sold separately.
