Description

The Arista SFP-10G-RA-1G-SX is a rate-adapting SFP+ transceiver designed to bridge 10G switch ports with existing 1G SX fiber infrastructure, eliminating the need for costly cable or equipment replacement during network upgrades. With a 10G XFI host interface that automatically adapts to 1000BASE-SX on the media side, it features internal Clause 37 auto-negotiation for seamless link establishment. Operating at 850nm over multi-mode fiber with duplex LC connectors, it supports distances up to 550m over OM2 fiber and includes Digital Optical Monitoring for real-time diagnostics.

FAQs

Q: What is the primary use case for this transceiver?
A: The SFP-10G-RA-1G-SX is designed for network migration scenarios where you need to connect 10G-capable switches to existing 1G multi-mode fiber infrastructure. It rate-adapts from 10G on the host side down to 1G on the media side, preserving legacy fiber investments during upgrades without requiring cable replacement.

Q: Which Arista platforms support this transceiver?
A: This transceiver is supported on specific Arista switch platforms. Consult the official Arista Transceiver and Cable Guide for the complete list of compatible models and minimum EOS software versions required for proper operation.

Q: Does it support auto-negotiation?
A: Yes, the transceiver includes internal Clause 37 auto-negotiation on the media interface, ensuring automatic and reliable link establishment with connected 1G SX equipment without manual speed configuration.

Q: What fiber cable types are compatible?
A: The transceiver requires multi-mode fiber with duplex LC connectors. It operates at 850nm and supports up to 550m over OM2 fiber, approximately 300m over OM3, and 400m over OM4 or higher-grade MMF, depending on optical budget.

Q: Is Digital Optical Monitoring available?
A: Yes, DOM is fully supported. Real-time diagnostic data including optical transmit and receive power, temperature, supply voltage, and bias current can be accessed through Arista EOS CLI or CloudVision for proactive network monitoring and fault detection.
