Description

The Arista SFP-10G-RA-1G-LX is a rate-adapting SFP+ transceiver designed to bridge legacy 1000BASE-LX single-mode fiber infrastructure with modern 10G switch ports. It internally adapts between a 10G XFI host interface and a 1G media interface, eliminating the need for media converters when migrating to 10G platforms. Supporting up to 10km reach over duplex SMF at 1310nm with Digital Optical Monitoring, it is ideal for enterprise campus and data center environments retaining existing fiber runs.

Features

Rate-Adapting Technology: Bidirectional speed conversion between 10G host interface and 1G media interface
- Internal Clause 37 Auto-Negotiation: Seamless link establishment with 1000BASE-LX endpoints
- Long-Reach Connectivity: Up to 10km over single-mode fiber at 1310nm wavelength
- Hot-Swappable: Field-replaceable without powering down the host switch
- Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM): Real-time diagnostics for transmit/receive power, temperature, voltage, and laser bias
- Low Power Consumption: Efficient operation within standard SFP+ thermal envelope
- Native Arista EOS Integration: Full visibility and management through Arista CloudVision
- MSA Compliant: Follows SFP+ Multi-Source Agreement standards for interoperability
- Quality Laser Components: DFB laser transmitter and PIN photodiode receiver for reliable long-reach performance
- Trade Agreements Act (TAA) Compliant: Suitable for government and enterprise procurement requirements

FAQs

Q: What problem does the SFP-10G-RA-1G-LX solve?
A: This rate-adapting transceiver allows organizations to upgrade their switches to 10G platforms without replacing existing 1000BASE-LX single-mode fiber runs. The module internally adapts between the 10G host interface and the 1G media interface in both directions, bridging the speed gap transparently and eliminating the need for external media converters.

Q: Which Arista platforms support this transceiver?
A: The SFP-10G-RA-1G-LX is supported on specific Arista EOS-based platforms with 10G SFP+ ports. Platform support varies, so it is recommended to consult the official Arista Transceiver and Cable Guide to confirm compatibility with your specific switch model before deployment.

Q: Does this transceiver require special configuration?
A: The SFP-10G-RA-1G-LX is designed to be plug-and-play within supported Arista EOS environments. The rate adaptation and internal Clause 37 auto-negotiation are handled by the module itself, requiring no additional host-side configuration for basic operation. The module automatically negotiates with 1G endpoints over the fiber link.

Q: What fiber type and distance does this module support?
A: This transceiver is designed for Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) and supports up to 10km reach at 1310nm via LC Duplex connector. It uses a DFB laser transmitter and PIN photodiode receiver optimized for long-reach single-mode applications, making it ideal for campus backbone and inter-building connections.

Q: Is Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) supported?
A: Yes, this transceiver includes full Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) support, providing real-time diagnostic data on operating parameters such as optical transmit and receive power, temperature, voltage, and laser bias current. This enables proactive monitoring and troubleshooting through Arista EOS and CloudVision management platforms.
