Description

The Arista SFP-10G-MRA-T is a rate-adapting 10G SFP+ copper transceiver designed for flexible multi-speed connectivity over standard twisted-pair cabling. Supporting 100M, 1G, 2.5G, 5G, and 10G BASE-T data rates, it allows Arista switches with 10G SFP+ ports to connect directly to legacy or mixed-speed copper endpoints without external media converters. Reaches up to 30 meters at 10G over Cat6a/Cat7 and up to 100 meters at lower speeds over Cat5e/Cat6 infrastructure, making it ideal for enterprise LANs, data center intra-rack connections, and mixed-speed environments.

Features

Rate-adapting technology automatically converts 10G SFP+ host interface to lower speeds (100M/1G/2.5G/5G) on the line side
- Multi-rate support allows single transceiver to connect to 10G, 5G, 2.5G, 1G, or 100M endpoints without hardware changes
- Hot-swappable SFP+ form factor for easy installation and replacement without system downtime
- Automatic speed negotiation with connected devices ensures seamless operation across mixed-speed networks
- RJ-45 copper interface leverages existing structured cabling infrastructure (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6a/Cat7)
- Backward compatible with 10M/100M/1G/2.5G/5G BASE-T applications for legacy device connectivity
- Digital diagnostics monitoring (DDM/DOM) provides real-time visibility into transceiver status and performance
- Built-in automatic crossover detection eliminates need for crossover cables
- Low power consumption (approximately 2.3-2.5W) reduces operational costs and heat generation
- IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) support for reduced power consumption during low traffic periods
- Compliant with SFP+ MSA standards (SFF-8431/SFF-8432) ensuring interoperability
- Commercial temperature range (0°C to 70°C) for standard networking environments
- Factory pre-programmed EEPROM for seamless compatibility with Arista EOS platforms

FAQs

Q: What speeds does the SFP-10G-MRA-T support?
A: The SFP-10G-MRA-T is a rate-adapting transceiver supporting 100M, 1G, 2.5G, 5G, and 10G BASE-T. It automatically negotiates the appropriate speed with the connected copper device, allowing a single transceiver to handle multiple data rates without reconfiguration.

Q: What cable types are required for different speeds?
A: For 10G operation, Cat6a or Cat7 cable is required with a maximum reach of 30 meters. For 1G, 2.5G, and 5G speeds, Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, or Cat7 can be used with distances up to 100 meters. Lower speeds (100M) also support up to 100m over Cat5e or better.

Q: Does this transceiver replace the need for external media converters?
A: Yes. The SFP-10G-MRA-T eliminates the need for external media converters when connecting Arista switches to legacy 1G or 100M copper endpoints. It plugs into any supported 10G SFP+ port and handles speed conversion internally through automatic rate adaptation.

Q: Is the SFP-10G-MRA-T compatible with all Arista switches?
A: The transceiver is compatible with Arista switches running EOS 4.28.1F or later. Refer to the Arista Transceiver and Cable Guide (Table 11.1) for specific platform compatibility and deployment requirements before installation.

Q: What are typical use cases for this transceiver?
A: Common applications include enterprise LAN deployments with mixed-speed endpoints, data center intra-rack and inter-rack connections, connecting Wi-Fi access points or IP phones, and server-to-switch connectivity where copper cabling is preferred over fiber. It is particularly useful in environments transitioning from 1G to 10G infrastructure.
