FAQs

Q: What is the maximum transmission distance for the QSFP-100G-ZR4?
A: The QSFP-100G-ZR4 supports transmission distances up to 80km over G.652 single-mode fiber, making it ideal for long-reach metro and data center interconnect applications.

Q: Is the QSFP-100G-ZR4 compatible with all Arista platforms?
A: No, this transceiver has higher power consumption and is supported only on specific Arista platforms. Consult the Arista Transceivers and Cables Guide to verify compatibility with your switch model before deployment.

Q: Why is optical attenuation required for short-distance links?
A: A minimum of 12dB attenuation is required on shorter links to protect the receiver from permanent damage due to excessive optical input power. This is critical for links much shorter than the 80km maximum distance.

Q: Does this transceiver support Digital Diagnostics Monitoring?
A: Yes, the QSFP-100G-ZR4 includes DDM functionality, allowing real-time monitoring of optical output power, received power, module temperature, transmit bias current, and supply voltage for proactive network management.

Q: What is the difference between 100GBase-ZR4 and other 100G optical standards?
A: 100GBase-ZR4 uses four LAN WDM wavelengths for extended reach up to 80km, significantly longer than 100GBase-SR4 (multimode, 100m), 100GBase-LR4 (single-mode, 10km), or 100GBase-ER4 (single-mode, 40km).
