Description

The Arista QSFP-100G-SWDM4 is a 100G QSFP28 transceiver designed for high-speed data center interconnects over duplex multimode fiber. Using Short Wavelength Division Multiplexing (SWDM4) technology, it transmits four channels at 25 Gbps each across 850, 880, 910, and 940nm wavelengths, supporting link distances up to 70m on OM3 fiber or 100m on OM4 fiber. This hot-pluggable optical module is ideal for upgrading from 10G/40G to 100G Ethernet using existing duplex fiber infrastructure, eliminating the need for costly parallel fiber deployments.

Features

SWDM4 technology enables 100G over duplex multimode fiber with standard LC connectors
- Four-channel transmission at 25.78 Gbps per lane using 850-940nm wavelength spectrum
- Seamless migration path from legacy 10G/40G duplex fiber infrastructure to 100G
- Hot-pluggable QSFP28 form factor for easy installation and replacement
- Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) for real-time performance monitoring
- Low power consumption (<3.5W typical) for energy-efficient data center operations
- Compliant with QSFP28 MSA and IEEE 802.3ba standards
- RoHS compliant for environmental compliance
- Commercial temperature range (0°C to 70°C) suitable for data center environments
- Cost-effective alternative to parallel fiber optics for short-reach 100G connectivity

FAQs

Q: What is SWDM4 technology and how does it work?
A: SWDM4 (Short Wavelength Division Multiplexing) uses four different wavelengths (850, 880, 910, 940nm) to transmit 4 x 25 Gbps channels over standard duplex multimode fiber. This allows 100G transmission using the same duplex LC connectors as 10G/40G networks, avoiding the need for expensive parallel fiber cables.

Q: Can this transceiver interoperate with other 100G multimode transceivers?
A: No, SWDM4 transceivers require book-ended configurations and do not interoperate with 100G-SR4, 100G-SRBD, or 100G-SR1.2 modules. Both ends of the link must use identical QSFP-100G-SWDM4 transceivers.

Q: What are the maximum supported distances?
A: The QSFP-100G-SWDM4 supports up to 70 meters over OM3 multimode fiber and up to 100 meters over OM4 multimode fiber. Some compatible versions may extend to 150m on OM5 fiber depending on the optical budget.

Q: Is this transceiver compatible with all Arista switches?
A: Yes, the QSFP-100G-SWDM4 is supported on all Arista platforms with QSFP28 100G ports. Always verify compatibility with your specific switch model and software version in Arista's Transceiver and Cable Guide.

Q: Does this module support Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM)?
A: Yes, digital diagnostic functions are available via the I2C interface as specified by the QSFP28 MSA standard, including monitoring of optical power, temperature, transmit bias current, and supply voltage.
