FAQs

Q: What is the difference between the QSFP-100G-SR4-E and standard QSFP-100G-SR4?
A: The QSFP-100G-SR4-E features enhanced environmental specifications for extended temperature operation, making it suitable for more demanding deployment scenarios. The standard version operates at 0-70°C commercial temperature range, while the E-series provides improved performance and reliability under varying environmental conditions.

Q: Is this transceiver compatible with non-Arista equipment?
A: While this transceiver is designed and coded for Arista switches, it follows industry-standard QSFP28 MSA specifications and IEEE 802.3bm 100GBASE-SR4 standards. Compatibility with other vendors depends on their module validation policies. Many third-party compatible versions are available that support multi-vendor platforms.

Q: What type of fiber cable is required for this transceiver?
A: This transceiver requires a 12-fiber parallel multimode fiber cable with MPO-12 or MTP-12 connectors. It uses four fibers for transmit and four for receive. OM3 fiber supports up to 70m, while OM4 fiber supports up to 100m transmission distance.

Q: Can this transceiver be used for 4x25G breakout applications?
A: Yes, 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 transceivers can support breakout to four separate 25GbE links when used with appropriate breakout cables and switch configuration. This provides flexibility for connecting to multiple 25G devices from a single 100G port.

Q: What diagnostic capabilities does this module provide?
A: The transceiver supports Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM/DOM) providing real-time monitoring of key operational parameters including transmit and receive optical power levels, module temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage. This data is accessible via the management interface for proactive network monitoring.
