FAQs

Q: What is the difference between QSFP-100G-SR4-E and standard SR4?
A: The QSFP-100G-SR4-E is an enhanced low-latency variant (100GBASE-SL4) with a shorter reach of 30m over OM4, compared to the standard SR4's 100m reach. It operates without Forward Error Correction (FEC) to minimize latency, making it ideal for high-frequency trading and latency-sensitive applications.

Q: Can this transceiver breakout to 4x 25G connections?
A: Yes, the QSFP-100G-SR4-E can break out to four 25GBASE-SR connections using appropriate MPO breakout cables, providing flexible connectivity options for mixed-speed environments.

Q: Is this module compatible with non-Arista switches?
A: While designed for Arista switches, this transceiver follows industry-standard QSFP28 MSA specifications and may work with other vendor equipment that supports 100GBASE-SL4. However, compatibility should be verified with the specific host device manufacturer.

Q: What type of fiber cable is required?
A: This module requires OM3 or OM4 multimode fiber with MPO-12/MTP connectors. OM4 fiber is recommended for the full 30m reach. The module uses parallel optics with 12-fiber ribbon cable.

Q: Why would I choose this over a standard SR4 module?
A: Choose the QSFP-100G-SR4-E when ultra-low latency is critical and distances are under 30m. The absence of FEC reduces processing overhead and latency, making it preferred for financial services, high-frequency trading platforms, and real-time HPC workloads where every microsecond counts.
