Description

The Arista QSFP-100G-SR1 is a 100 Gigabit Ethernet BiDi transceiver designed for short-reach data center and enterprise applications. Supporting up to 100m over OM4 multimode fiber via duplex LC connectors, this QSFP28 module uses dual-wavelength VCSEL technology at 850nm and 910nm to deliver 100Gbps over two fibers. Ideal for upgrading from 10G or 40G infrastructure while maintaining compatibility with existing duplex fiber installations.

Features

Dual-wavelength BiDi technology enables 100Gbps over two-fiber duplex LC connections
- PAM4 modulation with 50Gbps per wavelength for efficient bandwidth utilization
- Hot-pluggable QSFP28 form factor with MSA compliance
- 4x25G NRZ electrical interface compatible with standard 100G QSFP ports
- Supports connectivity to 400G BiDi optics in 4x100G breakout mode
- Digital diagnostics monitoring (DDM) for real-time performance tracking
- Low power consumption with single 3.3V supply
- Compatible with OM3, OM4, and OM5 multimode fiber
- Two-wire serial interface (I2C) for management and configuration
- LVCMOS/LVTTL control signals including Module Present, Reset, Interrupt, and Low Power Mode
- Enables seamless upgrade from 10G SR or 40G BiDi without fiber replacement

FAQs

Q: What is the difference between 100GBASE-SR1.2 and standard SR4 transceivers?
A: The SR1.2 BiDi uses only two fibers via duplex LC connectors with dual wavelengths (850nm/910nm), while SR4 requires 8 fibers via MPO connectors. SR1.2 allows reuse of existing duplex fiber infrastructure, making upgrades from 10G or 40G more cost-effective without replacing cabling.

Q: Does this transceiver support 400G breakout connectivity?
A: Yes, the QSFP-100G-SR1 can connect to 400G BiDi transceivers (OSFP-400G-SRBD or QDD-400G-SRBD) in a 4x100G breakout configuration, providing a migration path to 400 Gigabit Ethernet while maintaining compatibility with existing duplex multimode fiber infrastructure.

Q: What FEC is required for this transceiver?
A: The transceiver uses KP4 Forward Error Correction at 100Gbps data rate. This FEC is supported across all Arista 100G QSFP ports and helps reduce transmission errors in demanding data center environments.

Q: Is this transceiver compatible with other vendors' BiDi optics?
A: Yes, as long as the third-party 100GBASE-SR1.2 or 100G BiDi transceivers meet IEEE 802.3 and MSA specifications, they should be optically interoperable with this Arista module. Both ends must use the same BiDi variant (SR1.2 or SRBD) for proper operation.

Q: Can this module be used in breakout mode to connect to 25G SFP28 ports?
A: No, 100GBASE-SR1.2 BiDi transceivers use two optical fibers with dual wavelengths and are designed for point-to-point 100G connections. For 4x25G breakout applications, use 100GBASE-SR4 modules with MPO connectors or appropriate breakout copper cables.
