Description

The Arista QSFP-100G-LR is a 100GBASE-LR single-lambda QSFP28 optical transceiver designed for 100G Ethernet applications up to 10km over single-mode fiber. Operating at 1310nm wavelength with PAM4 modulation, this hot-swappable module converts 4x25G NRZ electrical signals to a single 100G optical signal through an integrated DSP-based gearbox. Ideal for data center interconnects, campus networks, and enterprise core layer deployments requiring reliable medium-reach connectivity.

FAQs

Q: What is the difference between QSFP-100G-LR and QSFP-100G-LR4?
A: The QSFP-100G-LR is a single-lambda transceiver using one 100G PAM4 optical signal at 1310nm, while the QSFP-100G-LR4 uses four separate wavelengths (LAN WDM) at 1295.56nm, 1300.05nm, 1304.58nm, and 1309.14nm. Both support 10km reach over single-mode fiber, but the single-lambda design offers simpler architecture and better compatibility with newer 400G breakout applications.

Q: Can this transceiver be used in any Arista 100G QSFP port?
A: Yes, the QSFP-100G-LR can be plugged into any Arista 100G QSFP port. The electrical interface uses the standard 4x 25G NRZ format, making it compatible with all Arista platforms that support 100G QSFP28 modules.

Q: Does this module support Forward Error Correction?
A: Yes, the QSFP-100G-LR includes built-in Forward Error Correction (FEC) as part of its PAM4 modulation scheme. The DSP-based gearbox handles the conversion and FEC encoding, which helps extend reach and improve signal integrity.

Q: Is this transceiver suitable for data center interconnect applications?
A: Yes, the 10km reach makes this transceiver ideal for data center interconnect (DCI), campus network backbones, metro networks, and enterprise core layer deployments. It's particularly useful for connecting multiple buildings or facilities within a campus environment.

Q: Can this module interoperate with 400G networks?
A: Yes, as a single-lambda 100G transceiver compliant with IEEE 802.3cd, the QSFP-100G-LR can interoperate with 400G networks using breakout configurations. This allows network operators to connect 100G sites to 400G equipment without sacrificing port bandwidth.
