Description

The Arista QSFP-100G-ERL41 is a 100GBASE-ER4 Lite QSFP28 optical transceiver designed for extended-reach data center interconnects and enterprise networks. It delivers 100 Gigabit Ethernet over duplex single-mode fiber at distances up to 40km with host FEC or 30km without FEC, using four LAN-WDM wavelengths and duplex LC connectors. Ideal for long-distance campus backbones, metro connectivity, and inter-data center links requiring high bandwidth over existing SMF infrastructure.

Features

100GBASE-ER4 Lite optical interface with four LAN-WDM wavelengths
- Hot-pluggable QSFP28 form factor for flexible deployment
- Extended reach up to 40km over duplex single-mode fiber with host FEC
- EML transmitter technology with APD receiver for high sensitivity
- Internal wavelength multiplexing and demultiplexing (no external mux/demux required)
- Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) for real-time performance diagnostics
- Low power consumption (4.5W max) suitable for high-density deployments
- Compliant with QSFP28 MSA and IEEE 802.3bm standards
- RoHS compliant and CE certified for environmental standards
- Commercial temperature range (0°C to 70°C) for data center and enterprise use
- Duplex LC connector interface for standard fiber infrastructure
- Compatible with G.652 single-mode fiber specifications

FAQs

Q: What is the difference between ER4 Lite (ERL4) and standard 100GBASE-ER4?
A: The ER4 Lite variant offers a reduced link budget compared to full ER4, supporting up to 40km with FEC (30km without) versus ER4's longer reach. ER4 Lite provides a cost-effective solution for metro and campus applications that don't require the full 40km+ reach of standard ER4. Arista uses the naming QSFP-100G-ERL4, while other vendors label it as ER4L.

Q: Does this transceiver require FEC to achieve maximum distance?
A: Yes, the QSFP-100G-ERL41 requires host-based Forward Error Correction (FEC) to reach the full 40km distance specification. Without FEC enabled on the host platform, the supported reach is reduced to 30km. Ensure FEC is consistently configured on both ends of the link.

Q: Is this module interoperable with other vendors' ER4 Lite transceivers?
A: Yes, the QSFP-100G-ERL41 is fully interoperable with Cisco QSFP-100G-ER4L-S, Juniper QSFP-100G-ER4L, and other vendor ER4 Lite modules on the same fiber link, provided FEC settings are configured identically on both ends. All comply with the same 100G Lambda MSA specification with identical wavelengths and link budget.

Q: What platforms support this transceiver?
A: The QSFP-100G-ERL41 is supported on Arista 100G QSFP28 ports across the switching portfolio. Compatibility was introduced in Arista EOS version 4.20.1 and later. Consult Arista's official Transceiver Compatibility Guide for specific platform support and any airflow or power restrictions.

Q: Can this transceiver be used for breakout configurations?
A: No, the QSFP-100G-ERL41 is designed for point-to-point 100GbE links only and does not support breakout to 4x25GbE or other configurations. The four internal wavelengths are multiplexed within the transceiver and cannot be separated for breakout applications.
