FAQs

Q: What network applications is the QDD-400G-PLR4 designed for?
A: This transceiver is ideal for 400 Gigabit Ethernet applications in data centers, cloud networks, high-performance computing environments, and enterprise campus backbones requiring long-reach single-mode fiber connectivity up to 10 km.

Q: Does the QDD-400G-PLR4 support breakout configurations?
A: Yes, the module supports 4x100G breakout mode, allowing you to connect to four separate 100GBASE-LR QSFP28 modules. This provides flexible migration paths and enables higher port density for 100G connections.

Q: What is the difference between PLR4 and LR4 400G transceivers?
A: PLR4 uses four parallel single-mode fibers via an MPO-12 connector with four wavelengths, while LR4 uses a duplex LC connector with four wavelengths multiplexed over a single fiber pair. Both support 10 km reach but have different cabling requirements.

Q: Is this transceiver compatible with other vendors' 400G equipment?
A: While specifically coded for Arista platforms, the QDD-400G-PLR4 follows industry-standard QSFP-DD MSA and IEEE 802.3bs specifications. It can interoperate with standards-compliant 100G-LR modules from other vendors in breakout scenarios.

Q: What type of fiber cable is required for this transceiver?
A: The QDD-400G-PLR4 requires OS2 single-mode fiber with MPO-12 (MTP) connectors using angled physical contact (APC) polish. Standard 12-fiber trunk cables are compatible for point-to-point or breakout applications.
