FAQs

Q: What is the difference between PLR4 and LR4 400G transceivers?
A: The 400G-PLR4 uses parallel optics with an MPO-12 connector and four lanes at 1310nm wavelengths, while the LR4 uses duplex LC connectors with four wavelengths over a single fibre pair. PLR4 supports 4x100G-LR breakout, making it more flexible for hybrid 100G/400G deployments.

Q: Can the QDD-400G-PLR4 break out to multiple 100G connections?
A: Yes, the QDD-400G-PLR4 supports 4x 100GBASE-LR breakout mode, enabling it to interoperate with four separate 100G-LR QSFP28 transceivers. This is ideal for gradual migration from 100G to 400G infrastructure or connecting to legacy 100G equipment.

Q: Is this transceiver compatible with Arista switches?
A: Yes, the QDD-400G-PLR4 is an Arista-branded transceiver designed for use with Arista's 400G-capable platforms, including the 7800R3, 7500R3, and 7300X3 series switches. It is programmed and validated for seamless compatibility with Arista EOS.

Q: What type of fibre cable is required for this transceiver?
A: The QDD-400G-PLR4 requires single-mode fibre (SMF) optical cable with MPO-12 or MTP-12 connectors featuring APC polish. It supports up to 10km transmission distance over OS2 single-mode fibre with sufficient optical budget.

Q: Does this module support Digital Optical Monitoring?
A: Yes, the QDD-400G-PLR4 features Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) support, providing real-time access to operating parameters such as transmit/receive power, temperature, voltage, and laser bias current via CMIS 4.0 interface for proactive network management.
