Description

The Arista QDD-400G-DR4 is a 400GBASE-DR4 QSFP-DD optical transceiver designed for high-speed data center interconnects up to 500 meters over single-mode fiber. It converts 8 channels of 50Gb/s PAM4 electrical signals into 4 parallel 100Gb/s optical lanes at 1310nm wavelength via an MPO-12 connector. Compliant with QSFP-DD MSA and IEEE 802.3bs standards, it supports 4x100G breakout and features DOM for real-time optical diagnostics.

FAQs

Q: What is the maximum transmission distance for the QDD-400G-DR4?
A: The QDD-400G-DR4 supports transmission distances up to 500 meters over parallel single-mode fiber (SMF) using MPO-12 connectors. This makes it ideal for intra-data center connections and short-reach interconnects.

Q: Does this transceiver support breakout configurations?
A: Yes, the QDD-400G-DR4 supports 4x100G breakout to QSFP28 100G-DR transceivers, allowing flexible network architecture where a single 400G port can be split into four independent 100G connections.

Q: Is this transceiver compatible with other vendors' equipment?
A: While coded for Arista Networks equipment, third-party compatible versions are widely available from multiple manufacturers. These alternatives are typically tested for full compliance with QSFP-DD MSA standards and IEEE 802.3bs specifications, ensuring interoperability with standards-compliant switches and routers.

Q: What monitoring capabilities does this module provide?
A: The transceiver includes Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM/DDM) functionality, providing real-time access to critical parameters including optical output power, receive optical power, internal module temperature, transmit bias current, and supply voltage for proactive network management.

Q: What are the power requirements for this transceiver?
A: The QDD-400G-DR4 requires a single +3.3V power supply and typically consumes 9-10W maximum power. It uses PAM4 modulation technology to deliver cost-effective, lower power consumption compared to earlier 400G solutions.
