Description

The Arista OSFP-800G-2XDR4 is an 800 Gigabit OSFP transceiver designed for extended-reach data center interconnects up to 2 kilometers over single-mode fiber. Using PAM4 modulation across 8 channels at 106.25 Gbps each, this module delivers 800G aggregate throughput via dual MPO-12 APC connectors. It supports flexible breakout configurations including 2x400G XDR4 and 8x100G DR1, making it ideal for spine-leaf architectures, switch-to-switch links, and high-performance AI and cloud infrastructure deployments.

FAQs

Q: What is the difference between 2xDR4 and 2xXDR4 transceivers?
A: The 2xDR4 supports up to 500m transmission distance, while the 2xXDR4 (extended DR) supports up to 2km over single-mode fiber. Both use dual MPO-12 connectors and 1310nm wavelength, but the 2xXDR4 provides four times the reach for campus and extended data center interconnects.

Q: Can this transceiver connect to 400G equipment?
A: Yes, the OSFP-800G-2XDR4 supports breakout to 2x400G XDR4 connections. You can connect it to two separate 400G XDR4 OSFP or QSFP-DD transceivers using two 12-fiber single-mode MPO-12 patch cables, enabling flexible migration from 400G to 800G infrastructure.

Q: Is this transceiver compatible with QSFP-DD ports?
A: While OSFP and QSFP-DD have different physical form factors and are not mechanically compatible, this OSFP transceiver can interconnect with QSFP-DD XDR4 modules of the same type using appropriate MPO-12 fiber patch cables in breakout scenarios.

Q: What network applications is this transceiver suited for?
A: This 2km transceiver is ideal for medium-reach data center interconnects, campus network backbones, spine-leaf architectures, and connections between geographically separated data center buildings. It's well-suited for AI clusters, high-performance computing, cloud infrastructure, and storage networks requiring extended reach beyond standard 500m transceivers.

Q: What cable type is required for this transceiver?
A: This transceiver requires OS2 single-mode fiber with dual MPO-12 APC (angled physical contact) connectors. Each MPO-12 connector carries 4 transmit and 4 receive lanes. Standard single-mode fiber patch cables with MPO-12 APC female connectors are required for proper operation.
