Description

The Arista OSFP-800G-2VSR4 is an 800GBASE-SR8 twin-port OSFP transceiver delivering 850Gbps aggregate throughput over multimode fiber. Designed for high-density data center interconnects, it supports 2x400G breakout, 8-channel 100G PAM4 operation, and reaches 50m over OM4 or 30m over OM3 fiber using dual MPO-12/APC connectors. Ideal for AI clusters, HPC, and spine-leaf architectures requiring low-latency, high-bandwidth switch-to-switch or server-to-switch connectivity.

Features

Twin-port OSFP design integrating two internal transceiver engines for maximum port density
- 8-channel 100G PAM4 parallel optics using VCSEL transmitter and PIN PD receiver
- Hot-swappable with finned top thermal design for air-cooled switch environments
- Supports 1x 800G, 2x 400G, 4x 200G, or 8x 100G Ethernet configurations
- Broadcom DSP and VCSEL chipset for stable, low-latency, ultra-low BER connectivity
- Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) for real-time optical power, temperature, voltage, and current monitoring
- Backward compatible with 400G OSFP ports when operated in breakout mode

FAQs

Q: Can the OSFP-800G-2VSR4 break out to 2x 400G links?
A: Yes, this transceiver supports 2x 400GBASE-VSR4 breakout. It interoperates with two separate 400G-VSR4 OSFP or QSFP-DD modules via dual 12-core multimode fiber patch cords, enabling 64 ports of 400G in a 32-OSFP cage switch.

Q: What fiber type is required for the OSFP-800G-2VSR4?
A: This module requires multimode fiber (MMF) with dual MPO-12/APC connectors. It supports up to 50m transmission over OM4 fiber or 30m over OM3 fiber using 850nm VCSEL technology.

Q: Is this transceiver compatible with InfiniBand NDR applications?
A: Yes, the OSFP-800G-2VSR4 complies with InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA) Specification 1.6 for InfiniBand NDR electrical and optical interfaces, making it suitable for both Ethernet and InfiniBand deployments.

Q: What is the difference between 2VSR4 and VSR8 variants?
A: The 2VSR4 (this model) uses two 4-channel MPO-12 connectors for 2x400G operation, while VSR8 uses a single MPO-16 connector for native 800G. Both deliver 8x100G PAM4 signals but differ in physical connector arrangement and breakout capabilities.

Q: What Arista switches support the OSFP-800G-2VSR4?
A: This transceiver is compatible with Arista 7060X6-64PE and other 800G-capable switches running EOS version 4.32.2 or later. Verify platform support in the Arista Transceiver Compatibility Guide for your specific switch model.
