Description

The Arista OSFP-800G-2FR4 is an 800 Gigabit Ethernet optical transceiver designed for 2km reach over single-mode fiber using dual duplex LC connectors. Utilizing four CWDM wavelengths (1271, 1291, 1311, 1331 nm) with PAM4 modulation, this twin-port OSFP module delivers 800Gbps throughput and supports 2x 400G-FR4 breakout applications without the need for breakout cables. Ideal for high-density data center interconnects, spine-leaf architectures, and AI/HPC workloads requiring low-latency, high-bandwidth connectivity.

Features

FAQs

Q: What is the maximum transmission distance for the OSFP-800G-2FR4?
A: This transceiver supports transmission distances up to 2 kilometers over OS2 single-mode fiber when host-side forward error correction (FEC) is enabled.

Q: Can this module break out to 400G links?
A: Yes, the OSFP-800G-2FR4 supports 2x 400GBASE-FR4 breakout configuration without the need for additional breakout cables. It can also support 4x 200G or 8x 100G breakout modes depending on switch capabilities.

Q: What switches and platforms are compatible with this transceiver?
A: This transceiver is compatible with Arista switches such as the 7060X6-64PE and other platforms supporting OSFP 800G optics, including switches from Cisco, Juniper, and NVIDIA, provided the platform allows generic optics and has FEC enabled.

Q: What is the difference between 2FR4 and DR8 800G transceivers?
A: The 2FR4 uses dual duplex LC connectors with CWDM wavelengths for 2km reach over SMF, while the DR8 uses dual MPO-12 APC connectors with parallel single-mode fiber for 500m reach. The 2FR4 is ideal for longer data center interconnects.

Q: Does this transceiver require special firmware or licensing?
A: The transceiver is pre-programmed with CMIS 5.0 firmware and does not require additional licensing. However, the host switch must support OSFP 800G optics and have appropriate features enabled, including FEC.
