Description

The Arista OSFP-400G-ZR2 is a 400GBASE-ZR digital coherent tunable OSFP transceiver designed for metro, regional, and data center interconnect applications. Utilizing DP-16QAM modulation and C-FEC, it delivers 400 Gbps over a single wavelength up to 120 km with optical amplification over duplex single-mode fiber. Compliant with OIF 400ZR Implementation Agreement and OSFP MSA standards, this pluggable DCO module supports full C-band ITU-T tunable wavelengths and offers superior OSNR performance for point-to-point DCI and metro backhaul deployments.

FAQs

Q: What is the difference between 400ZR and 400ZR+?
A: 400ZR is optimized for point-to-point metro links up to 120 km with fixed 400G line rate and DP-16QAM modulation. 400ZR+ (OpenZR+) extends this with flexible 100G-400G line rates, multiple modulation formats, and longer reach up to 480 km, designed for regional and long-haul applications. The OSFP-400G-ZR2 supports the OIF 400ZR standard.

Q: Which Arista platforms support the OSFP-400G-ZR2?
A: The OSFP-400G-ZR2 is supported on specific Arista platforms with OSFP ports. Refer to Arista's 400ZR DCI Solution Data Sheet and Transceiver and Cable Guide for the complete list of compatible switches and minimum EOS software version requirements.

Q: Can this transceiver interoperate with other vendors' 400ZR modules?
A: Yes, the OSFP-400G-ZR2 complies with the OIF 400ZR Implementation Agreement, enabling multi-vendor interoperability with other standards-compliant 400ZR transceivers on the optical line side, facilitating rapid deployment in open networking environments.

Q: Does the OSFP-400G-ZR2 require external amplification?
A: The transceiver can operate up to 40 km without amplification in point-to-point links. For distances between 40 km and 120 km, external optical amplifiers (EDFAs) and optionally mux/demux equipment are required to compensate for fiber attenuation and enable DWDM operation.

Q: What deployment scenarios are best suited for this module?
A: The OSFP-400G-ZR2 is ideal for metro data center interconnect (DCI), edge-to-metro point-of-presence backhaul, campus-to-data center links, and regional connectivity where 400G bandwidth is needed over distances up to 120 km with simplified DWDM deployment.
