FAQs

Q: What is the difference between OSFP-400G-SR8 and OSFP-400G-SR8-C?
A: The OSFP-400G-SR8-C includes all the functionality of the standard 400G-SR8 transceiver, plus the ability to be software-configured as 8x 50G-SR or 8x 25G-SR in channelized mode. This provides additional flexibility for mixed-speed deployments and network migration scenarios.

Q: What breakout configurations are supported by this transceiver?
A: The OSFP-400G-SR8-C supports multiple configurations: native 400G-SR8, breakout to 2x 200G-SR4, channelized 8x 50G-SR, and channelized 8x 25G-SR. Configuration is managed through software on compatible Arista platforms running EOS 4.28.1 or later.

Q: What fiber type and reach does this transceiver support?
A: This transceiver operates over OM3 or OM4 multimode fiber using an MPO-16 APC connector. It supports up to 50m over OM3 and 100m over OM4 parallel fiber. The module uses 16 fibers total (8 transmit and 8 receive) for 8 parallel optical lanes at 50 Gbps each.

Q: Is this transceiver compatible with non-Arista equipment?
A: The OSFP-400G-SR8-C is designed for Arista switches and routers with OSFP ports. While the optical interface follows IEEE 802.3bs standards for potential interoperability, the channelized configuration features are Arista-specific and require compatible EOS software support.

Q: What applications is this transceiver best suited for?
A: This transceiver is ideal for high-density data center spine-leaf architectures, 400G Ethernet aggregation, and cloud network interconnects. The channelized breakout capability makes it particularly valuable for phased network upgrades and environments requiring flexible bandwidth allocation across multiple lower-speed connections.
