Description

The 400GBASE-DR4 OSFP transceiver delivers 400G over four parallel 100G PAM4 optical lanes on single-mode fibre, with a reach of up to 500m. It uses an MPO-12 APC connector and is suited to data-centre leaf and spine links. It interoperates with 4 x 100GBASE-DR optics, supporting 4 x 100G breakout deployments. The DR4 variant covers up to 500m on parallel SMF, sitting between the 100m multimode SR8 and the 2km XDR4 options.

FAQs

Q: What fibre and connector does the OSFP-400G-DR4 use?
A: It uses parallel single-mode fibre terminated with an MPO-12 APC connector, with a reach of up to 500m.

Q: Can this transceiver break out to 100G links?
A: Yes. It is optically interoperable with 4 x 100GBASE-DR up to 500m, so a 400G port can be broken out into four 100G links.

Q: How does the DR4 differ from the XDR4 and SR8 variants?
A: The DR4 reaches up to 500m on parallel single-mode fibre. The XDR4 extends reach to 2km, while the SR8 is a multimode option for up to 100m.

Q: What form factor is required in the host switch?
A: This module is OSFP form factor, so it requires a switch port that supports OSFP 400G optics.

Q: What is the maximum power draw of this module?
A: Maximum power consumption is 12W, which should be considered when planning port density and cooling.
