Description

The Arista DCS-7289R3AM-SC is a high-performance switch card designed for the 7289 modular chassis, delivering 14.4 Tbps of packet processing capacity with enhanced MACsec encryption capabilities. This R3AM variant provides wire-speed AES-256-GCM encryption across 9 I/O module slots, supporting up to 36x 400G or 144x 100G interfaces depending on module configuration. Built for data center spine, leaf, and DCI deployments requiring secure, lossless forwarding with deep packet buffers and internet-scale routing.

FAQs

Q: What is the difference between R3A, R3AM, and R3AK switch cards?
A: The R3A is the standard switch card, R3AM (this model) adds enhanced MACsec hardware encryption capabilities, and R3AK provides both large-scale routing (5M+ routes) and encryption. The R3AM variant offers wire-speed AES-256-GCM encryption without the extended routing table scale of the R3AK.

Q: Which chassis is this switch card compatible with?
A: The DCS-7289R3AM-SC is designed exclusively for the Arista 7289 modular chassis (DCS-7289-CH), a 4RU system with 1 supervisor slot and 9 I/O module slots. It is not compatible with other Arista chassis platforms.

Q: What encryption protocols does the R3AM switch card support?
A: The R3AM supports IEEE 802.1AE MACsec for Layer 2 encryption, IPsec (RFC 4303) for Layer 3 encrypted tunnels, and VXLANsec for overlay network encryption. All encryption is performed at line rate using AES-256-GCM without performance degradation.

Q: Can I mix different I/O modules in the same chassis?
A: Yes, the 7289R3A modular system supports mix-and-match deployment of different I/O modules across the 9 available slots, allowing combinations of 25G SFP, 100G QSFP, and 400G OSFP/QSFP-DD modules based on your connectivity requirements.

Q: Is a separate license required to enable MACsec encryption?
A: Yes, Arista encryption features require an EOS license to enable MACsec, IPsec, and VXLANsec functionality. Contact your Arista representative or authorized reseller for licensing information specific to your deployment.
