FAQs

Q: What type of cable is this?
A: It is a passive twinax copper direct attach cable (DAC) with SFP+ connectors on both ends, delivering a 10GBASE-CR link at 10 Gb/s.

Q: What is the maximum reach of this cable?
A: This SKU is 1 metre in length, intended for short connections within a rack or between adjacent racks. The same cable family is also offered in 0.5, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3 and 5 metre lengths.

Q: Can it be installed or removed while the switch is powered on?
A: Yes. The cable is hot-swappable, so it can be inserted or removed without powering down the switch.

Q: Which EOS versions support this cable?
A: It is supported on all supported EOS releases.

Q: Why choose a DAC over 10GBASE-T or optical transceivers?
A: A passive DAC uses less power and adds lower latency than 10GBASE-T or optical links, making it a good fit for short top-of-rack connections.
